Modern Magic Lantern 3D Productions

Guenther Bauer, with his script for the Adirondack Stereo show at the Railroad Museum of the Lake Placid-North Elba (New York) Historical Society.

Modern Magic Lantern 3D stereo theater slide shows, suitable for audiences up to 250, continue the tradition of live stereo projection that started in the 1890s.

We use the modern stereo slide projectors that are custom-made by Bob Brackett, of Brackett Engineeering. Our projectors, the Brackett Faders (shown above) have been replaced by the new Brackett Dissolver XB (extra bright) projector.

Typically, the shows combine non-stereo and stereo projection to enhance the viewing experience of the audience.

A "70 inch by 70 inch" stereo screen, and polarized glasses complete the viewing equipment required for stereo theater presentations of Modern Magic Lantern 3D slides.Currently available Modern Magic Lantern 3D shows:

"Adirondack 3d," features stereos by the 19th century photographer, Seneca Ray Stoddard. This program was presented at the New York Stereoscopic Society meeting in the American Museum of Natural History, as shown in this announcement.

"Stereoscopic Saratoga Springs" is a compilation of stereos that were taken in and around the resort city of Saratoga Springs, New York during the Victorian era and during recent years.

Stereo organizations

The National Stereoscopic Association

Those who enjoy stereo viewing will find the publications, activities, and services provided through membership in the National Stereoscopic Association to be of great value.

http://www.stereoview.org/

There are a number of stereo clubs with local activities. The one nearest to the Studio is in New York City. Meetings are held several times a year in the American Museum of Natural History.

http://www.ny3d.org/#

The dinner is an informal gathering of stereo enthusiasts that is held on the third Friday of each month. Here is a comment that was posted on photo-3d by one of the hosts of the dinner, Jim Harp.

matmail2@earthlink.com

"Sure it's great to start a stereo club, but as long as you have a few
people with good appetites and an appreciation of depth I suggest
starting a regular stereo dinner.

We have one just about every month in Manhattan, at La Cocina on the Northeast corner of 85th and Broadway.

The dinner starts around 7 p.m., although you can come and go as you like. We're in the basement, at that table with all of the viewers and slides on it."

Information about future stereo dinners may be posted on photo-3d, or on the calendar of events at the Yahoo stereoviewing group.
